AMPED: Longer Tweets!

hmc-blog-2Longer tweets are finally (note: FINALLY!!!!!) here. The company announced earlier today that photos, videos and more will no longer eat up valuable character space so that you can now type your perfect message, before attaching any special files without worry. This move is long in coming for the social network and would go a long way towards staving off the constant threat of annihilation that seems to be the hallmark of this network.

Say more about what’s happening! Rolling out now: photos, videos, GIFs, polls, and Quote Tweets no longer count toward your 140 characterspic.twitter.com/I9pUC0NdZC

Earlier in June this year, Snapchat passed Twitter in the daily of number of users, which isn’t great news for a social network that really banks on constant usage. Now, Twitter did add 5 million more users in the first quarter of this year, to bring total users to 310M. However, the bad news is that the company is still not profitable, with a $79 million loss for the quarter.

Factor in those (UH-MAZING) updates to iMessage this weekend which likens it more t0 Facebook Messenger, the massive growth of Whatsapp for sharing and more social upstarts on the horizon, the promise of 140 characters feeding us the best and most relevant content seems to have evaporated. A damning report this year also noted that a massive number of Twitter’s users were also fake accounts.

The New Yorker has already predicted the death of Twitter. But till then, at least you can start writing a longer trbute the network should it ever happen. Do you tweet? Is the network relevant to you? To your brand?
